Hi! My name is Ana Figueiras. I’m a researcher at iNOVA Media Lab (NOVA FCSH), where I lead the Visualization and Data Analysis group (ViDA). Since 2017 I’m guest lecturer at NOVA FCSH and since 2019 I’m also invited assistant professor at Universidade Lusófona. I’m also working as invited scientist for the REDs – Digital Educational Resources project (POCH-04-5267-FSE-000124), an initiative to design, create and pilot digital educational resources for the 1st cycle of Portuguese basic education in the areas of Science, Mathematics and Portuguese.
I finished my PhD in Digital Media at Universidade Nova de Lisboa in late 2016, as part of the UT Austin Portugal program. Since then, my scientific areas of interest include information visualization, narrative visualization, and communication, where I’m particularly interested in visual forms of storytelling. I’m focused on researching and identifying the best techniques to incorporate narrative elements in a visualization and which elements provide effective storytelling. I’m also interested in researching evaluation/assessment methodologies for visualization.
